Intense pulsed light therapy, or IPL, is a way to remove or reduce unwanted pigment. You may find this procedure particularly beneficial if your skin has been damaged from sun exposure.
How Does IPL Work?
Intense pulsed light therapy penetrates down to the second layer of skin, known as the dermis, without damaging the exterior layer, known as the epidermis.
You can use IPL to remove or reduce:
- Age spots
- Sun damage
What Are the Differences Between IPL and Laser Treatment?
While these two procedures both use light energy, a laser releases only one wavelength of light at your skin and IPL emits many wavelengths of light. Laser treatments impact the outer layer of skin. IPL effects changes to the underlying layer.
